Richie Myler says England will be contenders to win the Gillette Four Nations when they take on New Zealand, Australia and France this autumn.

England failed to impress at last year's World Cup but the Salford City Reds scrum-half insists that they have no reason to fear their opponents from the southern hemisphere.

"The World Cup is in the past, we've learned from the mistakes that were made and have moved on," said the 19-year-old.

"A lot of Rugby League has been played since then and there's going to be a lot more competition for places for the Four Nations than there was last year.

"Of course New Zealand and Australia are going to be difficult to beat but there isn't anyone who thinks they're unbeatable. I'm really forward to the Four Nations and the chance to go up against the Aussies and Kiwis."

Myler bagged two tries on his England debut against Wales at Doncaster last December and he is looking forward to returning to the Keppmoat Stadium when Tony Smith's side face France on October 23 in the opening match of the tournament.

"Making my England debut was everything I dreamed about and more. To score two tries was amazing and it was great to play in a side of that calibre," said Myler.

"I'm almost a year older now and I feel I'm a much better player. I'm learned a lot, I am still learning and I know I can make a difference for England in the Four Nations if Tony gives me the call.

"There are some high quality half-backs coming over with New Zealand and Australia and it would be great to pit my wits against them."

Yeah right, just like they were so confident last year when they came to aussie only to get sent home with their tail between their legs.

I actually think they could be a real smokie this time around. Australia will have the usual pressure to perform and take out the trophy. The current world champs the kiwis will have sides trying to knock them off. Don't really rate France, think they are only there for the experience for future tournaments.

I wouldn't mind so much if they got to the final, but i'd be gutted if they took the title, i would rather that it stays downunder.
As for the french, they are there to make the numbers up, i would be suprised if they got within 20 points of any of the other 3 teams.

Yea,yea, yea. we read the same crap from the poms EVERY time there is a major RL tournament coming up and they have been squealling since 1978 about what they have learned from the earlier defeats against Australia, now, unfortunatelyfor the poms they are No 3and have the Kiwis to worry about as well,...they haven't won a major tournament against Australia since 1978 and after the 52-4 hammering they took against the Aussie in the last world Cup I wouldn't back the Poms with Monopoly money. #@$$#
