Warrington Wolves are aiming to halt the resurgence of Bradford and maintain the pressure on early Engage Super League pacesetters Wigan Warriors when they take on the Bulls at the Halliwell Jones Stadium this evening.

The Wolves missed a chance to go top when they lost at home to Wigan three weeks ago but they will leapfrog the Warriors if they beat Bradford by more than 34 points.

Bradford, who have won their last three matches, are looking to join four teams on eight points but coach Steve McNamara acknowledges that they probably face the toughest test so far.

“They are in good form at the moment,” said McNamara. “They had a tight victory at Huddersfield, which was well deserved, and then they backed it up with a great second-half performance against Crusaders.

“They are a side with a lot of confidence at the moment but they have suffered one defeat - against Wigan at home - and hopefully we can repeat that.”

The Bulls won at the Halliwell Jones Stadium last June, to make amends for an earlier crushing home defeat, and go into this evening’s game on a high following their dramatic win over Wigan.

The Bulls came from 20-0 down at half-time to snatch a 22-20 victory and McNamara believes their strong finish was down to their improved fitness and physical conditioning this year following a backroom reshuffle.

“I think the way we finished that game - a whole lot stronger than the opposition - is a credit to Geoff Evans, our head of physical performance, and Martin Higgins, our physio, for keeping our players on the field,” he said.

“I am not saying we are any fitter than any other team in the competition but those people have a done a great job in enabling the players to do what we did in the second half of that game.”

In this evening’s other game, Castleford Tigers will be looking to end a four-match losing run when they take on Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.
