A heavy error count hurt the Vodafone Junior Warriors as they fell to a 26-32 loss to Gold Coast in their opening match of NYC season at Skilled Park in Robina today (Sunday).

While they scored first through winger Bill Tupou, they went to halftime trailing 12-22 and found themselves 16-32 behind with 15 minutes to play.
However, despite being down to 12 men with standoff Shaun Johnson sin-binned, hooker Jarome Kutia’s try in the 73rd minute provided hope for the Vodafone Junior Warriors if they had been able to follow it up quickly with another try.
It didn’t come, Sebastine Ikahihifo’s 79th minute try too late, leaving the Vodafone Junior Warriors reflecting on a six-point defeat.
Tupou once again underlined his try-scoring appetite, collecting a double to lift his career total to 30 tries in 38 NYC matches since 2008.
While disappointed with the result coach John Ackland took some comfort from knowing the team had not played near its best on the day.
