Hodgson debut makes Morgan expect big things

JUSTIN Morgan is expecting to see big things from hooker Josh Hodgson despite seeing his promising Hull KR debut fall flat.

Impressing in his first Robins appearance since his off-season switch from Hull FC, Hodgson was unfortunate to end up on the end of a 31-18 defeat at home to Wakefield.

But the 20-year-old still did enough to please his coach.

"It was a nice positive start for him," said Morgan.

"He has waited for his time and his first stint was nice and solid and defensively very sound.

"He's only going to get better with experience.

"Young players have to play and you can expect to get some highs and lows from them because of their age, but that is the best way for them to learn."

Rovers bossed the first 40 minutes against Wakefield, but lost the plot in the second period and paid the price.

With a tough clash against Leeds to come at Headingley this Friday, Morgan knows his men must improve.

But the Australian will be working extra hard in training this week to improve his troops' composure and eradicate their mistakes.

"Josh is one for the future, and one of a number of good youngsters among us at the moment," added Morgan.

"The kid wanted to remember his first game for the club with a victory and we've let him down a little bit.

"I'm really upset that we have let him down.

"In the second half we didn't do anything that we intended on doing. We need to reflect on this and say that we have turned this into a positive. That is the challenge for us."
