The Vodafone Junior Warriors missed out on the chance to snare their first win of the NYC season when they lost 12-30 to Manly in today’s fourth-round clash at Mount Smart Stadium.

After two losses and a draw in their first three matches, the Vodafone Warriors had a strong period in the first half of today’s encounter when they hit back with three straight tries after conceding an early four-pointer to the Sea Eagles. None was more spectacular than Elijah Niko’s chip and chase effort.
With the three tries all unconverted, the home side had a 12-4 lead midway through the first spell only to see Manly score three times before the break – including a double to fullback William Hopoate – to grab an 18-12 lead.
Manly, too, was having goal-kicking issues converting only one of its tries leaving the Vodafone Junior Warriors right in the contest as the second spell began.
The locals dictated to flow for much of the second half, forcing a succession of repeat sets near Manly’s line but, while they were over the line three times, the Vodafone Junior Warriors came up empty-handed.
Manly absorbed the pressure and turned it into a positive by scoring two more tries in the final 10 minutes to leave the Vodafone Junior Warriors regretting missed opportunity for their first win.
Match details:

At Mount Smart Stadium, Auckland
Vodafone Junior Warriors 12 (Siuatonga Likiliki, Elijah Niko, Charlie Gubb tries).
Manly Sea Eagles 30 (William Hopoate 2, Mitchell Jowett, Liam Higgins, Scott Blanch, Joseph Hawkins tries; David Sheehan 3 conversions).
Halftime: 18-12 Sea Eagles.
Referee: Shane Rehm.
