Wakefield Lose Millard For Two Months

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats centre Daryl Millard is facing a two-month lay-off after damaging knee ligaments in last week's 12-8 defeat at Hull FC.

The 25-year-old Fiji international has played all 13 league and cup matches since joining the Wildcats from Canterbury Bulldogs in the winter but will begin his enforced lay-off in Saturday night's Magic Weekend meeting with Engage Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.

Wakefield coach John Kear will switch Paul Johnson, Luke George or Jason Demetriou to cover Millard's absence against the Rhinos at Murrayfield.

"We're sufficiently well covered but he's our top tryscorer so we will miss him," said Kear. "It's just one of those things. There was no malice; it was just an accident.

"He's had the scans and the results and our doctor says it's going to be at least six to eight weeks, but he wants to speak to the consultant before confirming it."

Wakefield have also lost stand-off Paul Cooke with a slight hamstring problem and will be without five members of the side that beat Leeds 28-18 in February.

Millard and Glenn Morrison are injured while Danny Brough, Shane Tronc and Terry Newton have all left the club.

"We've just got to get on with it," said Kear. "They've trained really well this week. If they play as they've trained, they will give themselves a great opportunity. So I'm quite relaxed."

Leeds are likely to be boosted by the return of full-back Brent Webb and second rower Ali Lauitiiti.

Webb missed last week's game defeat at St Helens after suffering neck spasms in training, while Lauitiiti has been unavailable for the last two games with a torn calf. Both have been named in coach Brian McClennan's 19-man squad.
