Williams tramples weary Dragons

Powerful Manly winger Tony Williams grabbed a hat-trick as the Sea Eagles defeated NRL premiership leaders St George Illawarra 24-6 at Brookvale Oval.
After both teams featured heavily in Friday night's representative fixtures, Manly seemed to cope better with the 24-hour turnaround as they named an unchanged line-up from earlier in the week.

The Dragons, missing prop Kangaroos Michael Weyman, ran into a Brookvale ambush, with Williams crossing for the first two tries of the match inside the 20-minute mark.

Trent Merrin got the visitors on the scoreboard nine minutes from half-time, but the Sea Eagles responded swiftly when fullback Ben Farrar sliced through to give his side a 16-6 half-time lead.

The home side effectively killed the contest in the 55th minute when Williams grabbed his third on the back of some Jamie Lyon brilliance.

Sea Eagles co-captain Lyon bounded through the Dragons' in-goal and batted back a Trent Hodkinson grubber as the ball looked certain to go dead.

Williams was jotting on the spot to place his hand on the ball, with the video referee confirming the try and giving Williams his first hat-trick in the NRL.
