![]() Injury-hit Hull FC have suffered more bad news with the loss of stand-off Richard Horne and two other key players for prolonged periods. Horne has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with a knee injury while forwards Willie Manu and Epalahame Lauaki each face around five weeks on the sidelines with elbow and calf problems respectively. All three were hurt in Hull’s Engage Super League loss to Harlequins RL at Murrayfield 10 days ago. On the positive side, influential trio Sean Long, Craig Fitzgibbon and Danny Tickle are all back in contention for this weekend’s trip to France to face Catalans Dragons. Coach Richard Agar said: “Richard Horne took a fairly nasty whack on his knee and he is going to be out for six to eight weeks. “It is a problem with his kneecap, he has had an impact on it and it is causing a bit of it to break away. “He will be resting up, he doesn’t need an operation. Hopefully that will get him through. “They are sizeable losses to a squad that was already fairly injury hit but on the bright side we have got Danny Tickle, Craig Fitzgibbon and Sean Long returning. “Certainly their experience and the direction they will give will help us.” Agar will hope the return of veteran scrum-half Long will offset the absence of Horne. Long, who joined the club from St Helens in the close season, has been out with ankle ligament damage since the defeat by Warrington Wolves on Easter Monday. Agar said: “We have quite obviously missed him. We highlighted in the off season the need to get some direction in the team and Sean and Craig have given us that. “It has been plain to see, while the effort has been good, sometimes the direction has been lacking.” Peter Cusack and Mark Calderwood remain on the sidelines but are thought to be close to a return. Hull are still expecting to fly to Perpignan as planned this week but have drawn up alternative arrangements should there be any ash-related disruption. Agar said: “We are hoping there is no volcanic ash because the contingency plans look quite daunting. “One is to drive to Dover, get a ferry to France and a bus journey down south, or alternatively get the overnight ferry from Hull to Bruges and then take a 17-hour bus trip to Perpignan. “Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen but if the bad boy erupts we might have to make some last-minute decisions.” www.superleague.co.uk |
