Steve Orme, Sportal![]() © Melbourne Storm Manu was fantastic in the Anzac Test last Friday night Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy has selected New Zealand international Sika Manu as 18th man ahead of Saturday night's Round 10 clash against the Raiders in Canberra. Bellamy has also named the same 17 that suffered defeat at the hands of Brisbane at AAMI Park, but admits he has not ruled out giving Manu his first NRL start in nine months. The imposing 23-year-old, who featured in the Kiwis' narrow loss to the Kangaroos on Friday night, has not played for the Storm since suffering a broken leg against St George Illawarra in Round 21 last season. But speaking in an interview with Storm TV, the coach declared Manu is 'fair odds' to play. "We gave him a rest on Sunday after the Test and he didn't play a long period in the Test," Bellamy said. "He hasn't actually played - he's played one reserve grade game for us actually, so he'll certainly come in for strong consideration. "We've picked 18 (players), whether we fit him in or not I'm not quite sure." Meanwhile, Bellamy remains wary of the Raiders but is confident his charges will produce an improved display after suffering a letdown against Brisbane. "We just need to get back on the horse again and hopefully get back to doing the things we do well which we didn't do for the whole game against the Broncos," the coach said. "It's a tough place to play Canberra, especially on a Saturday night or any night game. "It'll be nice and slippery and they certainly aim up at home so it's going to be a real tough contest for us but hopefully as the week goes on we can get prepared and play well up there." Bellamy will take a cautious approach with his representative stars early on in the week before ramping up preparations for the Raiders clash. "We've given all the rep players a couple of days off so I suppose it'll be a restricted preparation again, but after playing two games in the one weekend they need a bit of time to recover and recuperate," he explained. The Raiders welcome back Josh McCrone, Daniel Vidot and Joe Picker from injury but will again be without skipper Alan Tongue and lock Josh Miller, while Shaun Fensom and Adam Mogg also remain on the injured list. McCrone returns from a groin injury and replaces Marc Herbert who suffered an ankle injury at training last week, while Vidot returns on the wing for Drury Low who moves back to the NYC with Picker returning from an eye socket injury for youngster Sam Mataora. Melbourne Storm: 1. Billy Slater, 2. Matt Duffie, 3. Dane Nielsen, 4. Greg Inglis, 5. Anthony Quinn, 6. Brett Finch, 7. Cooper Cronk, 8. Bryan Norrie, 9. Ryan Hinchcliffe, 10. Jeff Lima, 11. Adam Blair, 12. Ryan Hoffman, 13. Todd Lowrie. Reserves: 14. Rory Kostjasyn, 15. Kevin Proctor, 16. Ryan Tandy, 17. Brett White, 18. Sika Manu. |
