May 15, 2010 Brisbane is out of the running to host NRL grand finals after the Queensland Government bailed out of a $25 million bid to bring as many as four of them to Suncorp Stadium. Sydney is certain to host all grand finals until at least 2019, with the NRL partnership committee this week deciding to award a seven-year contract extension to the NSW Government. It is understood the Queensland Government would have been expected to pay $25m to the NRL to host the four grand finals - $6.25m per game - which would have been a major draw for tourism to Brisbane. But Cabinet voted not to press on with a final formal bid despite two letters from Premier Anna Bligh expressing interest to the NRL. Queensland Events notified the NRL that it would not proceed with a bid, leaving Sydney the only choice.
