South Sydney reignited its semi-finals charge with a thrilling 38-28 victory over the Warriors at the Olympic stadium as the New Zealanders slumped to their first loss in six starts.

But the win came at a cost with boom back rower Dave Taylor breaking his collarbone in a second-half tackle on Ukuma Ta'ai as the Rabbitohs reined in a 10-point deficit with five tries.

Second rower Luke Burgess gifted the Warriors a 20-10 advantage at the break when he threw a blind flick-pass straight into the waiting arms of James Maloney a minute out from half-time.

But the Redfern outfit hit back with a stunning attacking display in the second half as Fetuli Talanoa grabbed a double while the Warriors were restricted to just one try from Lewis Brown.

The Rabbitohs had struggled to four losses in their five previous starts coinciding with an injury to Issac Luke, but left a poor run behind with Eddy Pettybourne, Nathan Merritt, Beau Falloon, Chris Sandow and Jamie Simpson joining Talanoa on the scoresheet.

Five straight wins had catapulted the Warriors shockingly into top four contention and the New Zealanders remain in fifth spot as South Sydney raced back into the eight, moving from 10th to seventh with the victory.

The Rabbitohs showed great speed and creativity around the ruck, while using Rhys Wesser to great effect as a link man on the edges to spread the ball to the likes of game breakers Talanoa and Merritt.

Brown's second try of the match gave the Warriors a sniff with seven minutes to go, getting back to within four points of the lead, and they kept the pressure on Souths with a couple of late raids into the attacking 20m.

The first of those saw Brent Tate leap high to pull down a chip that was subsequently defused with a gutsy leap from Talanoa, and the Warriors coughed up possession after the drop-out when Micheal Luck's forward pass led to an accidental off-side.

The Rabbitohs held the ball and finished the match off through Simpson, who took advantage of quick lateral ball movement from left to right to score the match-sealing try.

South Sydney: 38 (F Talanoa 2, E Pettybourne, N Merritt, B Falloon, C Sandow, J Simpson tries; Sandow 5/7 conversions)

NZ Warriors: 28 (L Brown 2, M Vatuvei, J Latimore, J Maloney tries; Maloney 3/5 conversions, penalty goal)
