The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans under-20s have exploded back into the top-eight by belting the bottom placed Parramatta Eels 46-0 at Skilled Park this evening. The dominant display puts the Titans in eighth position where they will remain over the weekend, depending on the result of the Souths vs. West Tigers clash, The Titans played as a cohesive unit in a brilliant first half display by scoring five tries ad taking a 28-0 lead into half-time. In what was arguably the Titans' best team performance of the year they ran in eight tries to nil with Walker, Rankin, Tongia, James Dowling, Walsh, Foggo and Lee all bagging a try each. The second half began with both sides failing to score points despite numerous opportunities until Titans centre Dominic Walsh took an intercept and motored 70 metres to go in under the posts. Five-eighth Jordan Rankin converted, extending the Titans lead to 34-0, 55 minutes in. The Titans' surge continued as a battered and bruised Eels defensive line was flat as the barnstorming second rower Kurt Foggo went in next to the posts; Rankin converted taking the score to an 40-0 with 13 minutes of play remaining. The Titans kept their foot on the accelerator right until fulltime, with interchange player Ayden Lee barged his way over in the dying minutes as the Titans finished up at 46-0. The Titans opened proceedings early as halfback Cody Walker sliced through the Eels defence with ease to go in close to the posts in the 7th minute. The early points continued as stand in fullback Ryan Tongia made a brilliant line break out of the Titans 20m line and linked up with Rankin who went in under the posts. Rankin converted his own try extending the Titans lead to 10-0, in the 12th minute. The Titans were playing a good tough brand of football as Rankin again found himself in space and repaid the favour to Tongia as he put him in under the posts. Rankin nailed the conversion as the Titans took a healthy 16-0 lead, 27 minutes in. The elusive hooker Matt Srama was soon to make his mark in the match as he made the Eels defenders look silly as he broke away and linked up with an unmarked James who went in under the posts. Rankin converted as the Titans took a comfortable 22-0 lead, in the 35th minute. The first half onslaught was not finished yet as lock Jamie Dowling muscled his way over ad Rankin converted to give his side a commanding 28-0 lead at half-time. Gold Coast Titans 46 (C Walker, J Rankin, R Tongia, R James, J Dowling, D Walsh, K Foggo, A Lee tries; Rankin 7 goals) defeated the Parramatta Eels 0. www.rleague.com |
