Great Britain and Wakefield Trinity star John 'Joby' Shaw died in Pinderfields Hospital last Saturday aged 76.

He was in the Great Britain team that won the World Cup in 1960 and the Ashes in Australia in 1962.

The former miner from Crofton, Wakefield, made 194 appearances for Trinity, scoring 35 tries.

Former team-mate, Trinity legend Neil Fox MBE, said: "Joby was one of the fastest players around and did more than what was expected of a hooker.

Lifelong friend Dave Bean said: "He was a very good man, everyone had a lot of respect for him. The fact he had grown up in the mines and worked his way up to lift the Rugby World Cup was such a great story
for everyone back at home."

Mr Shaw's funeral will take place at Pontefract Crematorium at 10.30am on Tuesday.
