McDermott - feared for Quins' future.

Harlequins are set to allay fears over the future of the rugby league club with an announcement before kick-off to their final Super League match against Warrington at the Twickenham Stoop on Friday night.

Head coach Brian McDermott spoke of his fears for the future of the London club earlier this month, shortly after announcing his decision to step down from his post to rejoin Leeds.

Quins have since been in talks with the Rugby Football League amid speculation that the club were once more in serious danger of folding but club chairman David Hughes is expected to confirm they will remain in Super League next season.

He is also expected to clear up the confusion that surrounds the financial position of Harlequins.

Although Hughes has been footing the bills for the last two years, he is a minority stakeholder, with Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan retaining two-thirds of the shares from his time at the club.

"David Hughes will make an announcement prior to kick-off on Friday and supporters can be assured it will be positive news," said a club spokesman.

The Londoners have endured a tenuous existence since the club was launched as Fulham 30 years ago and even a link-up with the capital's famous rugby union club failed to spark a significant increase in crowds.

The League expressed their concern over the club's attendances a year ago but they are desperate to maintain a high-profile presence to build on the progress being made at junior and schoolboy level in London.
