The cherry and whites completed their regular season with a convincing 34-12 win over the Bradford Bulls at the DW Stadium on Friday night.

It was a special evening as the players received the 2010 League Leaders Shield after the game, the first silverware since 2002 and the first time since 2000 Wigan had finished top of the table at the end of the season.

It was also a special night for winger Pat Richards who grabbed 14 points to equal the Super League points scored in the regular season of 388 which Andy Farrell set in 2001. Richards did though beat the Club record of tries scored in the regular season as he grabbed a try to take his tally to 28 in the Super League. A record held by Kris Radlinski since 2001.

Wigan Warriors welcomed back to the side Stuart Fielden after a one game suspension and back after injury George Carmont who missed the win last time out at Hull KR. Back on the bench Martin Gleeson following his hernia operation and Paul Prescott following his eye operation.

The Bulls were without full back Dave Halley, Michael Platt switching to full back.

A Guard of honour of former Greats, Billy Boston, Colin Clarke, Henderson Gill, Andy Gregory, Denis Betts and Graeme West welcomed the Warriors side onto the field.

Wigan thought they had taken the lead on 13 minutes, Sam Tomkins with a jink to find his way through, Referee James Child denied the opportunity for obstruction in the build up.

The home side were not denied three minutes later, Liam Farrell breaking the Bulls defence, George Carmont in support to turn and dive over. Richards added the conversion to make it 6-0.

On 27 minutes the Warriors extended their lead and a popular try as Feka Paleaaesina crossed under the posts after a great break from Mark Riddell from acting half back to carve open the Bulls defence. Richards made it two from two, 12-0.

On 32 minutes a great Sean O'Loughlin cut out pass opened up Bradford and Pat Richards crossed for his 28thtry of the season to break the Club Record in Super League in the regular season which had been held by Kris Radlinski since 2001. His conversion struck the uprights, 16-0.

With two minute of the half left, Joel Tomkins was in for Wigan's fourth try of the evening as he pushed away some pretty poor Bulls defence. Richards slipped in attempting the conversion and it went wide, 20-0 at the break.

Within sixty seconds of the re-start it was try time again, Paul Deacon with a chip kick to the corner and Richards collecting to cross in the corner as the Bradford defence was caught stretched. The winger missed the goal, 24-0.

The Warriors should have increased their lead on 49 minutes, a Richard's break from a Carmont pass but Liam Farrell knocked the ball on.

On 66 minutes the home side spread the ball to the right with Darrell Goulding scoring in the corner for Wigan, his 24th of the season. Richards hit the goal to make it 30-0. The two points drawing Richards level on 388 points with Andy Farrell for points scored in a regular Super League season set in 2001.

Kopczak crossed for Bradford for a consolation try on 75 minutes, Sykes added the goal, 30-6.

Goulding snatched a try in the corner with three minutes left to make it 34-6 but Richards was unable to add the vital goal to take the record outright.

The Bulls scored again through Andy Lynch with a minute left under the posts and Menzies added the goal and it ended 34-12.

So a great night of celebration for the Wigan fans, a crowd of over 17,000 which also means Wigan end the season as the best supported Club in the competition.
