www.couriermail.com.au Israel Folau declared he saved his best season for last after the heartbroken Bronco's career at Brisbane and in rugby league came to a sombre end against Canberra. After 91 first-grade games, Folau will join AFL newcomers Greater Western Sydney on a four-year, $6 million deal but he was riven with emotion in the Broncos sheds as he reflected on his exit from the NRL. There can be no doubting the special mark Folau has left on rugby league. He became Australia's youngest international in 2007 at 18 years and 194 days, won an Origin series and a premiership before his 21st birthday and scored 20 tries in as many games for the Broncos this season. Despite his brilliant two-year stint at the Storm, Folau said his 2010 campaign with the Broncos will go down as his best in four seasons. "Personally, my best year was probably this year," he said after the gut-wrenching 18-16 loss no Friday night. "I've made good friendships in Melbourne and Brisbane, it's been great and I've been happy with my input to the club. "This is the first time in the four years I've been involved in the NRL I've missed out on the finals. It will be hard to leave but I'm looking forward to my next challenge in the AFL." Broncos coach Ivan Henjak said the club would miss Folau's presence and on-field potency. "He's been very good for us, Izzy, I have no complaints at all," he said. Folau said the Raiders would be a genuine threat in the finals. "The teams in the top eight are all pretty strong," he said. Have your say, click here to register |
